Header contest recognition post
[info]midnight_jo wrote in [info]sortofbeautiful

So yesterday I was thinking... our new layout looks fab! Thanks to the mods for taking the time to spiff up SOB, and congrats again to [info]blue_emotion on her winning header!

But then I kept thinking about it, and... we never did find out who created all of those other banners for the header contest.

It seems a shame to let all of that hard work go unacknowledged, so I'm inviting all of the artists to spam up this post's comments with their work so that we can go ahead and lavish praise upon them.

So go ahead, artists! Spam away! I want to know who made those banners!!!

:D

Most of these are from the newest blog (Eclipse, ch. 2). First picture-icon is [info]midnight_jo's favourite.

HOPE YOU ENJOY.

The Neverland Project
[info]bri_chan
So about a month ago, I got the idea to combine photos of Peter Pan and Tinkerbell at D*sneyland in Photoshop, since it seemed like a fun project. I pitched this idea to them and the agreed to help me out. I started out making a list of ideas and got to the park early one morning to meet with Peter. We took a ton of photos, and he even threw some ideas out to me.

About a week later I put all the photos on my phone, met up with Tinkerbell, and showed them to her so she could see how she was supposed to act out. Since it's MUCH harder to do a photoshoot with Tink when there's a constant line waiting for her, we didn't take a whole lotta photos onstage. But we ended up getting through them all and I spent most of October doing these for fun.

Ron Weasley, however you like him best.

Prompt claiming open now!

*steps off of center-justified soapbox* I really want to highlight the multimedia nature of this fest, for a second. We've got a few signups for art and fanmixes already, but we'd really love to showcase skills rarely seen in conventional fests. Crocheted dolls? Puppet shows? A tapestry of Ron's life? Anything you can dream up, we will welcome with open arms. And it's a very low-pressure fest. And it's RON!

Prompt claiming post here.

Claims open until December 1st.

Dan blogs ch 2 of Eclipse
[info]jomar780 wrote in [info]sortofbeautiful
Is this ok mods? Can we have a post to discuss and share our favorite parts of Dan's Blog?

Chapter Two: Evasion
Better Title: Edward Cullen's Guide to Controlling Your Woman

So Dan gets it right away, thank you for this statement Dan.
... but by chapter's end, if any young woman still thinks Edward Cullen is the bee's knees, then I feel very sorry for that young woman. It's shocking how awfully Edward treats Bella. And Bella's reaction is just as horrible. These two idiots deserve each other, and I'm glad that Jacob didn't end up with Bella. Besides, Jacob Black needs no woman. The earth is his mistress. The sky is his bride. He is…Mr. Black [cue thunderclap] (I could write Jacob intros all day!)
Really this guy sounds so much like many of the members here I'm beginning to wonder if one of you is Dan Bergstein incognito.

Another of my favorite parts
Bella and her dad have a heated argument, with Bella claiming to be an adult, and Charlie reminding her that if she lives under his roof, she will obey his rules. Perhaps if Charlie ate bears and played baseball loudly, Bella would do as she's told.
Ha oh so true, poor Charlie:(
Ok people so go read and then come and share your favorite stuff.

This week Gary has given us 5 topics to pick from. A couple I have already written about and a few I have not. The hardest thing is to write something on the topic I have already written on because I don’t want to duplicate my efforts. Behind the cut is my entry this week drawn from some (not so) current events.

I hope you have enjoyed my entry this week and will give me your vote when the time comes

Jayne Hats for Turkeys! ... help feed the hungry and win a hat. Nov 11-25, 2009
[info]valeriebean wrote in [info]fireflyfans
Donate $25 or more to your local food bank and enter to win a free Jayne hat!

Details at http://www.valeriebean.com/jaynehats4turkeys/

Hi all! I keep hearing how 1 in 8 Americans struggle with hunger, and so inspired, I donated to my local food bank. Then I thought of Jayne Hats for Turkeys.

Many food banks have special programs to provide a holiday meal - turkey and all the trimmings - to low income families who can't afford the luxury. It is one of the few times during the year that food banks will collect perishable items. $25 is all it takes to feed a family.

Donate to your local food bank (or equivalent hunger-fighting charity), let me know, and you could win yourself a very cunning hat. (See website for details on how to enter.)

I'm making no restrictions by country. The point is to feed the hungry. Please spread the word.

Thanks,
valeriebean

Network Maintenance: Saturday, November 14, 2009 at 04:00-06:00 UTC/GMT
[info]dwell wrote in [info]lj_maintenance
On Saturday the 14th at 4AM UTC/GMT we will be upgrading the operating system of our network load balancers to a newer version, one that will allow us to use both CPUs! Nifty, because multiprocessing is nice.

Since we have 2 load balancers, the plan is to upgrade 1 at a time, and there really should be very little impact to our website. Hopefully you won't notice a thing and I'll get to go back to the hotel and watch some wonderful late night infomercials.

We've got a lot of exciting projects coming up for 2010 and we're hoping that we'll be able to deliver them all to you, that you will find it useful/cool/lovely and then you will use the site even more. Behind-the-scenes work like this will give us the capacity to handle the anticipated traffic, so expect a few more maintenance windows especially in the beginning of next year as we've got some neat ideas to improve performance around here! We had the recent 30-45 minute outage yesterday due to one of our logging databases filling up disk space -- not so great design coupled with my human error in handling the initial problem -- and it looks like we're going to finally have some resources to eliminate stuff like that. I can't wait!

As usual, I will be updating status.livejournal.org before and after, just in case you are not able to reach our main website during the work.
