Studio Ghibli

Ever since I saw Spirited Away, I've been a conscious fan of Studio Ghibli and Hayao Miyazaki. (I say conscious because I wasn't aware that My Neighbor Totoro and Kiki's Delivery Service were by Miyazaki as well). This summer I had downloaded Ponyo on the Cliffs by the Sea but I never got around to watching it until this weekend. The movie was sooo freaking cute and the plot was so good that I've been on a Ghibli kick. I decided that I want to watch all the studio ghibli films I haven't seen yet (I'm only missing a couple)

So tonight I watched Only Yesterday, a fairly obscure Ghibli film that was aimed more towards adults. It was a drama about a woman reminiscing about growing up in Tokyo in '66. I picked it because it was 2 AM and it was the shortest of the films I haven't seen yet (Studio Ghibli films are notorious for being over 2.5 hours long)... but I thought I wasn't going to like it because it was a drama aimed at an older audience. I was so wrong, the movie was really well made and I really connected with the main character. I'm really glad I picked it to watch tonight because it really fit my mood :)

Tomorrow is my free day thanks to Veteran's Day so I plan on watching either Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind (I missed it when in played on adult swim a few years back D:) or Whisper of the Heart. I also need to watch The Cat Returns and Porco Rosso (but this only seems like I wouldn't like it)

I also found out that Hayao Miyazaki's son made a movie too so I added it to the list.

I just read the following e-mail from my viz comm professor: (lezlishae I think you'll find this amusing)
On Wednesday night during Intro to Viz Comm we will be having a costume contest that you can enter for the chance at winning some extra credit for either class. Pick a typeface (it can be your favorite or least favorite) and send me an email announcing your choice before Wednesday at 5:00pm. Then, dress up as your chosen typeface, but DO NOT write the name of your typeface anywhere on your costume. Then, during class, we'll vote to see if we can figure out who is dressed as which typeface. The winner, first and second runners-up will receive extra credit.

So I have a ton of homework due this week (no surprise) and it's driving me crazy!

BUT! I finished my gryffindor scarf today :D I just need to weave the ends in!!! THIS IS MY FIRST FINISHED KNITTING PROJECT OMG YAAAY!!!

Also I would like to apologize to lezlishae for not being able to participate in her bookmark swap D: I had the bookmarks designed and ready to be printed then lo and behold.... my printer died *sadness* My printer is D-E-D dead and i don't think it'll be able to print again :/ *more sad* So, I decided to post the bookmarks here if anyone would like to use them.
